Intro to Multi-Camera

What is multi-camera? Multi-camera is when multiple cameras working at one time so that you can see what is going on from different angles.

What types of events do they cover? Multi-camera covers many different events ranging from quiz shows to live concerts to a sports event. For live chat shows like This Morning they use around 5 different cameras, however for things like sports events they use 30 cameras or more. Unlike chat shows sports is not stationary and the people who are controlling the cameras can not predict what is going to happen so in order to be prepared for what is going to happen next they have many different cameras at many angles to ensure that the audience watching to not miss a key moment in the game.

During a live music performance there would typically be around 6 cameras which will mainly be focusing on the artist who is singing. Occasionally the cameras would also focus on the band or the crowd to make the people at home feel as though they are there.

This is a basic set up of what the cameras would be like for a chat show, this ensures that the audience can see what is happening from all different angles without breaking the 180 degree rule and not break the magic of television.
